What is Rufus’ Road Trip?

Our very own Rufus Bear left the office to go on a well-deserved holiday. You’ll be seeing regular picture and updates of where Rufus has been and what he got up to, but what exactly is the story behind Rufus’ Road Trip?

Max and his sister Megan with Rufus.

The story began in February 2019 when Firstaid4sport’s Directors Gemma and Michael Davison’s son, Max, was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Recalling the day Gemma and Michael said;

“Leaving the clinic with bags of equipment, needles, prescriptions and vials of Insulin, it felt just like the moment we left hospital with a new-born Max; realising we are responsible for keeping a little person safe.

“However, this time round we had to administer a potentially lethal drug to keep him alive.”

Upon being diagnosed Max received his very own KIDSAC containing his Rufus Bear, a bear designed to help show children the best places to inject their insulin.

On the journey home Max questioned who had paid for his Rufus Bear, leaving Michael and Gemma to explain that the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) pay for every Rufus with money from donations.

Max simply replied; “Okay then. I will raise some money to help them.”

Shortly after we launched our very own MAX Tape in July 2019; a tearable light weight EAB tape. And with 10% of each roll sold being donated to the JDRF, MAX Tape has raised over £4,000 in just seven months.

With just under £1,000 to go until we hit our original £5,000 target, Firstaid4sport have decided to launch Rufus’ Road Trip, which sees our very own Rufus Bears travel all over the country and even the world.

Every Bear will be going on its own trip to different clubs and customers who purchase our MAX Tape, as everyone purchasing MAX Tape is supporting the JDRF, sometimes without even knowing.

So, keep an eye out for pictures, posts and updates of Rufus’ Road Trip as one small bear helps raise awareness for a great cause.
