For every one minute delay, a victim's chance of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest drops by 7-10% and almost 95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching a hospital. CPR effectively administered immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double the chance of survival for a victim. With seven out of ten cardiac arrests occurring outside of hospital and only 2-3% of these people surviving - CPR and outdoor defibrillators are vital for increasing the victims chance of survival. Early defibrillation can triple a victim’s chance of survival and The Department of Health has a target of placing 3,000 new defibrillators in public places in England.
The unit is supplied with a protective outer cover, which when opened by the easy sliding switch, automatically turns on. The defibrillator pads are already connected and ready to use. LED indicator lights flash with the corresponding voice prompts. Visual icons clarify the necessary actions. The adult/paediatric mode switch allows the correct setting without changing the pads. The battery is disposable, LiMnO2 Non-rechargeable, with 2 years shelf life, and 5 years standby life.
You do not need training to use the Mediana AED, as it is designed for untrained persons. It talks you through step-bystep directions, so there is no risk of shocking a casualty in error. Training however, can save vital seconds and dispel any confusion if you encounter a Cardiac Emergency.
The easy to use unit talks you through the whole process, the three basic steps are:
1. OPEN THE COVER. Mediana switches on automatically when the lid is opened.
2. ATTACH THE PADS. Pads are fixed and ready for Adult or Paediatric use.
3. PUSH THE SHOCK BUTTON. Set the mode to adult or paediatric, then wait for the shock. button to flash ‘ready’ for shock delivery.
Although training is not required, Mediana have designed a free training course for people with little knowledge of First Aid, providing information in four bite-size sections that are easy to remember. The course is hihgly recommended as it provides the basic knolwedge needed to use the A15 defibrillator with confidence. On the course you will be guided through four units:
Unit 1: Encountering a Casualty having a Cardiac Arrest
