Elbow Supports and Elbow Braces

Elbow support vs elbow brace - what’s the difference?

When suffering from an elbow injury or pain, it’s important to get the right level of support, but how do you know which one to choose, an elbow support or brace?  An elbow support offers compression, warmth and flexibility which is an ideal choice for wearing during physical activities or as part of recovery, but they can also be worn as a preventative aid to avoid any future injuries occurring.  An elbow brace, however, offers a step up in support.  They are designed to limit movement of the joint which is the perfect solution for post-surgery recovery.

Common elbow injuries that would require an elbow support or elbow brace:

Tennis Elbow - Not surprisingly tennis elbow occurs from many racquet-based sports such as tennis, badminton, squash and weightlifting.   It can even strike in some occupations too including mechanics, chefs and butchers. It happens when then the elbow joint is placed under stress by overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm, near the elbow joint.  Although it tends to clear up by itself, we stock specifically designed tennis elbow braces and supports to combat the pain.

Golfers Elbow - Very similar to the above, Golfers Elbow occurs to the same tendons but this time it targets the inside of the elbow.  Again it is caused by overuse of the muscles that allow you to grip, rotate and flex your arm as repetitive movements cause tiny tears in the tendon.  Perhaps not as common as Tennis Elbow, it is still a form of tendonitis, therefore, we suggest using an elbow brace or elbow support depending on the severity.

Sprains - Extremely common in many sports, elbow sprains occur on a daily basis.  We recommend an elbow support for warmth and compression to the affected area.  We have many options to choose from including elasticated, wraparound, sleeves and supports with gel pads.

Arthritis - Initial symptoms of elbow arthritis include things such as swelling, stiffness and pain.  The most common type is rheumatoid arthritis which is a disease of the joint linings. We have a choice of specially selected arthritis elbow supports, for pain relief and stability when needed most.
