Knee Support vs Knee Brace - what's the difference?

When suffering from a knee injury or pain, it’s important to get the right level of support, but how do you know which one to choose, a knee support or brace?  A knee support offers compression, warmth and flexibility which is an ideal choice for wearing during contact sports or as part of recovery, but they can also be worn as a preventative aid to avoid any future injuries occurring.  A knee brace, however, offers next level support. They are designed to offload pressure away from the knee with a fully hinged system in place to restrict movement while stabilising the area.


Common knee injuries that would require a knee support or knee brace:

ACL injuries - Occur when the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is stretched or torn.  The most common injury is a complete tear and would, therefore, require a hinged knee brace for maximum support and rehabilitation. ACL injuries can cause instability of the knee, painful joint swelling and could take 6 - 9 months to recover if surgery is required.

Arthritis - Unfortunately the knee is a common area when it comes to arthritis.  It is a disease that causes pain, swelling and stiffness to the joints. Therefore, depending on the severity, we recommend using a wraparound knee support or a hinged brace for maximum effect.

Sprains - Again this is quite a common injury, especially in the sports world, so whether its prevention or recovery we recommend an elasticated wraparound knee support for compression and of course lots of rest until the inflammation goes down.

Prevention - Protective braces for wear during contact sports

Rehabilitation - Restrictive brace, limiting movement for post-surgery recovery
